Newport SF write-up - Mannarino vs. Humbert!

And we're back with another write-up on Betting Down The House!  The Game, Bet, Match podcast has been covering the vast majority of matches at Wimbledon & the 250s, so there hasn't really been a reason to write for you loyal readers.  We're on a bit of a hiatus from the podcast this weekend so you'll get a semi-final writeup and (maybe?) a finals write-up as well if there's an interesting match.  The selected match for this write-up is a battle of two Frenchmen with excellent hair styles; the nicely shaved Adrian Mannarino takes on the luscious lettuce of Ugo Humbert Definitely choosing the Mannarino look, but anyways onto the tennis match.  This match is a pure pick'em (both players are -110 on the ML), so we have a very binary choice here; we will need to pick a Frenchman to win the match and it's just a matter of which one. The Pick:  Mannarino + 1 head of hair (aka Moneyline) (-110) OK, so why are we picking Mannarino?   First, the stats .  Let'

Wimbledon Day 6 write-up - Fokina vs. Rune

Hi all! Welcome again to BETTING DOWN THE HOUSE!  We're back again with another write-up for you.  Sorry about the long write-up of the Hurkacz-Musetti over that just missed.  While the first two sets were extremely close, Hubi won a couple of key points in each of those sets and then ran away with the third set.  If Musetti wins one of those sets, we would have cashed another ticket.  Such is life in betting where even when the read is right, sometimes the putt (or the bet in this case) misses the hole :( Today's preview is Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs. Holger Rune, in a battle of two physically gifted players who really don't like to win matches easily. The Pick: Over 38.5 games (-120) Overall, we'll first look at both players' playstyles: Holger Rune At the ripe old age of 20 years old, Holger Rune is ranked 6 on the ATP Tour by points and 5th in ELO (courtesy  tennisabstract.com ).  On some websites, you will see him listed as Holger Nodskov Vitrus Rune (whic

Day 5 Wimbledon Match Write-up - Musetti vs. Hurkacz!

Hi everyone, back to the write-up grind!  Your favorite loudmouth was too sleepy last night after the GBM Pod and fell asleep on his laptop in the middle of the Raonic-Paul write-up.  Too bad, you literally would have seen that the write-up said that Paul was a better tennis player to the tune of 3-0, but that his choking tendencies + Raonic's serve gave Raonic a chance of winning one set, but winning two was highly unlikely.  Alas, I don't get to count it because I didn't complete the assignment (though GBM did cash the bet so at the end of the day, hope you tailed us and cashed too!).   While we are staying at it, we also called the Sinner-Schwartzman match quite well, we told you to lay up to 10 games if necessary (Sinner ended up winning by 11games, 7-5 6-2 6-1). Live photo of Loudmouth sleeping last night OK, enough of the past (thanks  Rafiki ).  Onto today's write-up where we have a matchup of two top-20 players, Lorenzo Musetti vs. Hubert Hurkacz!  Will the you

Sinner vs. Schwartzman

Sinner vs. Schwartzman - Wimbledon 2023, Day 3 (Round 2)! And off we go, our first match write-up ever!  Sinner vs. Schwartman, in a battle of two of the lightest guys on the ATP tour (as an aside, I don't believe that Sinner's weight is actually >75 kg).  But that's neither here nor there, onto the tennis.... The pick: Sinner -7.5 games Overall, I don't see how Schwartzman keeps this competitive.  A few things to look at with Schwartzman: Schwartzman is 0-3 career vs. Sinner, all three matches in the past two years 6-2 6-2 in 2021 Antwerp 6-0 3-1 in Monte Carlo 2023 (Schwartzman threw in the towel after 9 round of a 12-round fight) 6-2 6-4 in Barcelona 2023 In Schwartman's last ten matches vs. ATP top 20 players (all within past 52 weeks), he is 0-10 and has not taken more than 4 games in 21! sets (OK, 20 full sets and one set where it was incomplete because he threw in the towel Here's a complete list of Schwartzman's wins in 2023: Kecmanovic, McDonald,
Welcome!  And so it begins... Hello! Hola! Bonjour! Guten tag!  Welcome to "Betting Down the House - A GBM Blog".  You probably already know what this is if you came here, but in case you stumbled here accidentally (and we're excited to host you anyways!), a little primer.  As you can probably tell from the name, this blog will discuss mid-long (think a few hours in advance) betting opportunities, centering primarily on tennis (but with occasional sprinkles of other things as well).  We will center primarily on tennis here, but since your author never misses the opportunity to place a bet on something just to prove the world wrong, you will occasionally see other betting markets pop here too.  In short, just an ordinary guy, BETTING DOWN THE HOUSE!!! A word on your author... just a few dawns (well maybe a few months) ago, was an occasional tennis better and mostly a fan and mediocre club-level player.  But the lure of 365 betting markets (approximately) on tennis matches
